Friends star Matthew Perry, aged 54, unexpectedly passed away on October 28, and recently, the cause of his death was disclosed as the effects of ketamine, according to a report by TMZ. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released a comprehensive toxicology report detailing that ketamine in his system led to both respiratory depression and cardiovascular overstimulation.
Matthew, renowned for his role in Studio 60 on Sunset Strip, had undergone a ketamine infusion for therapy just a week and a half before his demise. However, the report clarified that the ketamine found in his system couldn’t have resulted from that specific therapy session. Additional contributing factors to his untimely death included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine—a drug commonly used to help individuals gradually overcome opioid dependence.
In light of Matthew Perry’s well-documented struggles with addiction, as revealed in his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” his family has taken steps to commemorate his legacy. They established The Matthew Perry Foundation, aimed at supporting individuals grappling with substance use issues. The foundation’s mission is to honor Matthew’s memory by leveraging his experiences and passion for making a positive impact in as many lives as possible.
